It was recently in the news that WordPress is now powering over 50 million blogs. In any given day WordPress has helped 350,225 WordPress.com bloggers post 302,882 posts and over 270,000 comments. Roughly calculated, it means that 210 posts and 188 comments are submitted each minute. The stats page counts a total of nearly 77 million words written, almost double the size of the Encyclopedia Britannica. It has also won the best Content Management System (CMS) award.
Content Management System
Though WordPress is mainly known for blogging, we think it makes a great content management system that is FREE. What is a content management system, or CMS? A web content management systems allows someone with little or no programming knowledge the ability to update their content with ease. This allows for easy tweeks to your resume, uploading of your latest web series video, or adding your latest headshot.
Simple Backend
WordPress is simple enough to use for people who are not familiar with updating websites. The dashboard is clear, clean and clearly shows where a users need to go to update media, pages and posts. If a users has used WP for a blog, through WordPress.com, the dashboard is the same when using WP as a self-hosted CMS.
Easy WYSIWYG (pronounced wiz-ee-wig) editor
Do you have to “ask” your webmaster every time you want to make a small change to your website? Once WordPress is set up, you can easily create new pages or edit existing pages using a simple rich text editor. The two main areas that are visited for updating content are Pages and Posts. The WYSIWYG, an acronym for What You See Is What You Get, editor is the same for both pages and posts and set up similar to a word processing program. There you can type you content as well as upload pictures and media.
